CLARENCE LUNT

My mom was 11 when her dad, Clarence Lunt, died (43 years old) of stomach cancer -- leaving his wife, Lavetta Cluff Lunt, with 9 children, the youngest just a baby.  Clarence's short life has had a powerful influence on generations!

Clarence was one of the 9 sons of Henry Lunt and Sarah Ann Lunt (immigrants to Mexico from Cedar City, Utah.
Corrales, the Lunt family ranch is a few miles from the small town of Pacheco in the mountains of Chihuahua, Mexico.

TO SARAH ANN LUNT

in her home in Cedar City, Utah in 1886, two years before President Taylor’s death.

 President John Taylor and other associates were in Cedar City holding Stake Conference.  They were staying in the home of Bishop Hendry Lunt.  President Taylor had stayed home from the morning session to rest.  In mid-morning he came into the kitchen where Sister Lunt (Sarah Ann) was preparing dinner and related the vision to her that he had had while in his room.

He said, “I saw Salt Lake City become a great and beautiful city, with cement sidewalks and streets, wealthy people, beautiful homes extending almost to the top of the mountain south of the Utah State Prison.   People had become indifferent.  War began among the people.  I saw blood running down the gutters of Salt Lake City as if it were water.  People were fighting among themselves until it became so serious that the entire Church records were taken across the Colorado River.  If you are alive at that time, be sure you are not far behind the records, because after the Church records leave and are secure, the very powers of hell will be turned loose and there will be such destruction that but little life will remain.

Not only in Salt Lake City but other adjoining cities will be destroyed.  And in the east, in Missouri, in Jackson County, civilization will become entirely extinct. 

All means of transportation such as highways and railroads will be destroyed.  The only means of travel will be on foot.  Manufacturing of all kinds will be entirely destroyed.  Be sure when you see these things come that you have buttons, needles and things to work with in order to make clothing.  Thread and cloth (as much as possible) because all tools and things to work with will be destroyed (such as machinery). 

It will be such a destructive war that the sufferings and drivings of the people from Nauvoo will only be as a drop in the bucket compared with the suffering that will take place at that time - - until half of the people will not follow the Church leaders at that time, and half of the others will die or turn away because of the sufferings they will have to go through.  But the Lord will bless those who stay with the Church authorities and they shall not be destroyed.  They will travel south and finally form a circle, something like a horseshoe, before they return to Jackson County, Missouri.

Those who will be privileged to help build Jackson County will be placed over them.  They will not only be willing to listen to their counsel and advice but will ask that they might receive it – to be guided and protected heavily.  They will cry to the Lord day and night for deliverance.  They will be few in numbers and will assist the Lamanites in building the New Jerusalem in Jackson County.

The vision was so terrible that President John Taylor asked the Lord to close it up.  But he saw that those who would keep the commandments and adhere to the authorities of the Church would survive; and the Lord would protect them as He did the people of Israel.  After telling this, the Prophet, John Taylor, said to my mother, “Sister Lunt, see that you will always listen to and obey the counsel of the Church authorities and stay with them”.

My mother's life story begins with:

 "If I include my family as I tell you about my life, it's because my family is my life!  Where I lie down worn out, my children will stand young and fresh.  By the steps I have cut, they will climb.  By the stairs I have built, they will mount.  At my clumsy work they will laugh, but they will mount, and on my work they will climb, and by my stairs ... for no man liveth unto himself, and no man dieth unto himself."

If I could use one word to describe her (which is impossible) is would be JOY.  Each time I speak with her or call her on the phone and say "Hola mamacita" she laughs.  Her laughter will ring in my ears long after she leaves this mortal sphere - and I'm sure it is the "magic" of her happy life (thus our happy lives)!

My mother knows the value of FAMILY.  She knows that this world was created (organized) for the creation  (organization) of families.  She taught us from infancy of God's plan for his family (we are His spirit children).  She learned the value of ROOTS and WINGS from the restored gospel of Jesus Christ - the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 

God, our Father in Heaven, made a perfect plan for His children.  He taught us in our premortal lives (Roots) - and then He sent us here to Earth to receive a body of flesh and blood (Wings).  Our mortal bodies are subject to temptations of every kind, but we must allow our spirits to learn to manage our bodies.  He knew we would make mistakes - - thus He sent His "only begotten in-the-flesh" Son, Jesus Christ - - to atone for us (which means that Christ's atonement will bring MERCY to help overcome God's Laws that would condemn us).  Our Father knew that we would need to be able to CHOOSE FOR OURSELVES - thus when two of His most glorious sons presented their plans for helping us (Jesus and Lucifer) - he chose the plan of CHOICE (Jesus'), because Lucifer's plan was to force us to do right.

This is called the "Plan of Happiness", or "Plan of Salvation", and even the "Plan of Exaltation".  It is based on the Law of Obedience.  Even God obeys laws.  When He says He will bless us, He will!  When Christ created (organized) this world He commanded all things to obey - the rocks, plants, animals, stars - - everything except us!  We were given the privilege of CHOICE!.  But the blessings, promises, and true happiness come from obedience to God's eternal laws and also to commandments given through Prophets.

So, getting back to FAMILY.  Family gives us ROOTS!  Mothers teach us and nurture us.  Fathers provide, protect and preside.  It's a perfect plan!  When mothers and fathers fulfill their roles for raising healthy and happy children, and when parents honor marriage covenants of fidelity and love - - then children are given WINGS.  Children can fly - - they have confidence - - they can do great things in their lives and bless the world!

Thank you, mother, for teaching us that we are children of a loving and perfect God, Elohim - - our Father in Heaven.  Thank you for teaching us of the great heritage of hard-working, faithful and kind people that we come from!  Thank you for sharing the journals and stories of those who came before us.  Our feet are planted firmly in our earthly lives, and we are working towards earning a glorious estate in our next life!
